✨ Types of Numbers & Patterns ✨
1. Even and Odd Numbers
Introduction: Have you ever tried to share something equally with a friend? Sometimes it works out perfectly (nobody gets left out!), and sometimes there's one lonely piece left over. This simple idea is the foundation of even and odd numbers.
Even Number (6)
Perfect Pairs!
Odd Number (7)
One is left out!
The Rule:
- Even Numbers: End in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. They can be divided by 2 with zero remainder.
- Odd Numbers: End in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9. When divided by 2, they always leave a remainder of 1.
2. Prime and Composite Numbers
Introduction: Think of numbers as being built out of smaller blocks. Some numbers are stubborn and can only be built in one straight line. Other numbers are flexible and can be arranged into neat rectangles!
Prime Number (7)
Only 1 way to arrange (1 × 7)
Composite Number (6)
Can be arranged as a rectangle (2 × 3)
The Rule:
- Prime Numbers: Have exactly two factors (1 and the number itself).
- Composite Numbers: Have more than two factors.
- Special Note: The number 1 is neither prime nor composite. The number 2 is the ONLY even prime number!
3. Square Numbers
Introduction: Math is visual! Some numbers can literally be drawn as perfect squares using dots. When the number of rows matches the number of columns, you get a Square Number.
2 × 2 = 4
3 × 3 = 9
4 × 4 = 16
4. Triangular Numbers
Introduction: If square numbers make boxes, can numbers make triangles? Yes! Imagine stacking pipes or bowling pins; you stack them in a triangle so they don't roll away.
